Visit the Ashmoleon Museum this spring to see a private collection of works by Matisse, Manet, Chegall, Renoir, Degas, Léger and Picasso from a private collection of over 100 never-been-seen works of art. This ground-breaking exhibition tells one of the most compelling stories in the history of art – the rise of modernism. The exhibition is running from 10 February – 7 May 2017 and is not to be missed.
May Morning is celebrated on 1 May every year and is the traditional celebration of the coming of spring. The celebrations will start at 6am on Monday 1 May 2017 with the choristers of Magdalen College choir singing Hymnus Eucharisticus from the Great Tower. After a morning of celebrations, enjoy breakfast in one of the many bars and restaurants across the city that will be opened especially for this day. Throughout May Morning, many more events and activities will take place across the city including Morris dancing in Radcliffe Square, Catte Street and Broad Street. Join Oxford’s communities in dancing, singing and revelry around the city on this extra special Bank Holiday.
Common People Festival takes place on May Bank Holiday (27th & 28th May 2017) in one of the most beautiful parks in the UK. With an incredible lineup including Groove Armada, Pete Tong, Sean Paul and Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, this festival in the stunning surrounds of Oxford’s South Park is not to be missed.

across Oxfordshire – for free! With art exhibitions and open studios in hundreds of interesting places throughout May, you can discover Oxfordshire’s creative talent in painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, glass art and more. The first two weeks of the event will be held in locations across Oxfordshire and the third and final week will take place in Oxford itself, across 200 art spaces around the city. Meet artists in a wide range of interesting locations, talk about their work, watch demonstrations and even have a go yourself.
