Places to visit in Oxford on a romantic weekend
Planning to escape for a romantic weekend and looking for places to visit in Oxford? With a full history and beautiful buildings full of heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city for a couple’s weekend. Our reception team has come up with their top 3 most romantic activities in the capital of Oxfordshire, so whether you prefer to walk around, take a boat ride or enjoy great views of the city, there are plenty of things to suit every couple.
Enjoy punting on the River Cherwell
You can hire a punt from the Magdalen Bridge Boathouse for one hour or even a full day. This probably tops the list of things to do in Oxford and is available from the beginning of February until the end of November. Autumn provides a beautiful backdrop thanks to all the changing colours and as you follow the River Cherwell, you can see the gorgeous tree leafs turning orange and red, how romantic! If you want to make the most of your punting experience, take a picnic on board and enjoy your lunch as you float along the river.
Get a city view from the University Church’s Tower
Visit the University Church and climb the 127 steps of the Tower to get stunning views of the city. It might seem like a lot of steps but the climb is definitely worth it! In addition to reaching the top of a very historical monument, you will have one of the best angles to photograph the Radcliffe Camera which is arguably Oxford’s most photographed building.
Take a wander around town
Wandering around town is sometimes the best way to discover a city; you see beautiful buildings with great architecture and stumble upon an array of independent shops. On your way, you pass in front of the University of Oxford’s numerous colleges (which you can visit if you wish to) and discover the famous Venice-inspired Bridge of Sights. We highly recommend heading towards the University of Oxford’s botanic gardens which are very well maintained and provide a calm and wonderful environment for a romantic wander.
